Cat in the Hat’s Hat Craft
Ready for a fun Cat in the Hat’s hat craft? This one uses really easy materials to get you a cute quote craft that’ll join your list of favorite The Cat in the Hat crafts! This post contains affiliate links.
Craft the Cat in the Hat’s hat using really easy and standard craft materials: craft sticks, paint, and paper, plus a clothespin.
This craft is so versatile. It can be made by teachers as a classroom display. It can be made by kids as a collaborative classroom display. And it can be simplified into a super easy preschool craft for kids to take home.
Start by creating a Cat in the Hat’s hat craft using painted popsicle sticks. Kids can practice patterns while having fun with the painting and the gluing. If you’re making this with younger kids, use washable paint or paint sticks instead of acrylic paint.
Then, add fun quotes from Dr Seuss’s books – either written by the kids or by the teacher! This fun classroom craft can also be made at home, of course. You can glue magnetic strips to the back to turn it into fun magnets for your fridge.
And it doubles as a mini clipboard where you can attach things other than book quotes!
Supplies:
- One jumbo wooden craft stick
- 15 regular sized wooden craft sticks
- One mini or regular sized clothespin
- Turquoise and red markers
- Red and white acrylic or washable paint, or use Paint Sticks from OOLY or Kwik Stix
- White cardstock
- Tacky glue (a hot glue gun may be more convenient if an adult is crafting it)
- Paintbrush – if you’re using traditional paint
- Scissors
- Ruler
How to Assemble the Cat in the Hat’s Hat Craft
1. Paint one jumbo craft stick and six regular sized ones white. Paint your clothespin white too. Paint the rest of your craft sticks red. If you need to, you can paint a second coat once the first has dried.
2. Measure and cut a piece of white cardstock roughly 6” by 3.5”.
3. Glue the white jumbo craft stick to the bottom of the cardstock. Continue to glue the regular craft sticks on the cardstock, alternating three red and three white. If using tacky glue, make sure to leave it in place and not move it until it has dried completely.
4. Using red and blue markers, hand letter your favorite quotes onto the free printable quote cards. You can sketch it in pencil first, if you’d like. Or, just make some lines using a ruler and erase them when you’re done.
5. Attach the hand lettered quotes to the craft stick hat using the clothespin as a clip.
