When it comes to Hanukkah, the tradition is more to gift to our kids. However, it’s also a fabulous time to show gratitude to those who mean a lot to us. And so, I often like to gift small but useful gifts to family and friends.

This year, I decided that chocolate is definitely the way to go.

I found some pretty tin pantry containers in Target and decided to turn them into a secret chocolate stash!

To do that, the tins are mislabeled with things that no one would want to open. I created five variations: wheat germ, brussel sprouts, prunes, pencil stubs, and used batteries. I kind of like the “useless items” ones rather than the “bad rap” ones and if I create more, I’ll be sticking to pencil stubs and used batteries.

If you’re creating this DIY chocolate gift for coworkers, teachers, etc. the more office items are definitely the way to go! If you’re crafting for family that are likely to keep it in their kitchens, opt for food items.

Each tin was mislabeled, filled with chocolate (Lindor of course) and then tagged with “enjoy your secret chocolate stash”.

Isn’t it fun how a little humor comes together into the sweetest little gift?

Sadly, when I wanted to make more, Target was out of the tins that I used. These are very similar – I got those to make more. Or, you can paint Ball mason jars with opaque paint, look for ceramic canisters, or go for anything that is opaque. If people can see through it defeats the whole purpose!

I intentionally kept the design of this DIY chocolate gift very neutral, simple, minimalist to be somewhat convincing and to blend.

How to gift a secret chocolate stash

1. Size your words to fit with your canisters. Send it to your machine to cut.

2. Weed your project carefully. The text is quite fine.

3. Cut a piece of transfer tape to size. Use the scraper to adhere it well to your design. Flip it over and scrape on the back too.

4. Carefully peel back the backing of your vinyl, making sure all the text stays where it should. Peel back, against the design, not up and away.

5. Center your design on your canister and then smooth down the sides.

6. Scrape to adhere well and then peel back your transfer tape.

7. Draw and cut your tags. You can also foil them if you prefer.

8. Fill your canister with chocolates.

9. Cut a bit of twine to attach your tag.
