Felt Mosaic Candle Holders
I’ve recently gotten together with a lovely group of craft bloggers, to bring to you some great new craft ideas. The goal of these felt mosaic candle holders is to find a useful and beautiful way to use all those felt scraps you can’t bring yourself to throw out.

I’ve been collecting felt scraps together with my collection of felt forever. I can’t bring myself to throw out those little bits by the handfuls… and so my hoarding problem just escalates. But I believe that sometimes part of being a crafter is hoarding.
We see something, and we can’t help but think of all the beautiful things that can be made from it…
And so throwing it out is like throwing out a full bottle of Mod Podge or, even worse, (gasp!) a package of Sharpies!
Well, I’m glad I didn’t, because, these ^^^. I like how they came out. I like it a lot.
I wasn’t really sure what to do with them, but then I came across these candle holders that were too plain for words among my craft supplies. A few snips and a little decoupage were all I needed to turn them into masterpieces.
I actually HADN’T planned for the light to shine through the felt like this. That’s why I made sure to leave plenty of cracks.
I had two types of felt – a better, thicker one that I used for these costumes, and a thinner, cheaper one that I used for odd assorted crafts. The thinner one actually came out nicer as it lets the light shine through more, while showing off the soft texture of felt.
Did I mention the texture? It’s warm and fuzzy, just like you want your candle light to be.
That’s what makes this so much more special than your typical tissue paper decoupaged jar. Felt also upgrades this, making it a perfect craft for moms, teens, and kids of all ages. Just make sure to pre-cut the felt pieces for little ones.
If you don’t have lots of felt scraps – fear not, you can get sample packs too. Make another felt craft and voila – you’ll have scraps!!!
I used glitter Mod Podge on one and it looks kind of cool. The yellow/green one has regular glossy Mod Podge.
And one final tip, before I go to the how-to: Group color families to keep it looking cool and sophisticated.
What you need to make mosaic candle holders:
- Felt scraps from projects or get a sampler pack
- Fabric shears and detail scissors
- Mod podge
- A glass candle holder (you can do this with baby food jars too.)
- A foam brush
How to make felt mosaic candle holders:
Watch the silent video tutorial:
1. Snip your felt scraps into small pieces. Aim for straight edges.
2. Brush one side with a generous layer of decoupage medium.
3. Start putting on your felt bits as they fit. Snip to size and shape using detail scissors.
3. Fit the pieces to fill the whole side with spaces in between to mimic grout.
4. Complete on all four sides. Allow it to dry completely.
Try it in another color too.
Light them up and watch it glow through the felt!
