Heart Napkin Fold Tutorial
Ever since my dreidel napkin fold was a hit, I knew I had to do something more evergreen. This heart napkin fold tutorial is perfect for Valentine’s day, but it’s also great for any time you want to set a romantic table, or just for fun!

I love simple napkin folding tutorials – they are a great, elegant way to turn any table into something themed, without the “tacky” angle.
I broke away from the classic red hearts for this heart napkin fold tutorial, simply because I felt like that would take away from the elegance. Like this, an easy heart can be integrated into any tablescape, even at a formal event. You can even fold your spouse’s napkin during a rest room break while you’re out on a date!!
I created this heart napkin fold tutorial using a paper napkin. You can definitely give it a go with a cloth napkin as well – just don’t pre-fold the corners – simply tuck them in. When you’re finished, you can gently press it with an iron.
If you flip your heart napkin over, you can actually use it as a flatware pocket, but I chose to leave it as a napkin beneath the flatware. The flatware actually DOES weigh it down, securing the folds into place.
FYI that flatware that you see in the photo is a new set I splurged on from Target and I’m in love. It’s similar in style to some really expensive brands for a fraction of the cost. The napkins are by Artstyle (unfortunately I can’t find the same print online) and feature two contrasting prints, which gives it a unique look. When you fold your heart napkins, the pattern appears differently on either half of the heart.
I used luncheon sized napkins since you do start off with it folded in half. Beverage napkins would simply be too small.
Watch the video tutorial below, or scroll on for instructions!
How to do a heart napkin fold:
1. Start with a square napkin that’s folded in four.
2. Open it one way so that it’s folded in half, horizontally.
3. Fold the bottom up, so that the edge is about 1/3 of the way up the rest of the napkin.
4. Fold your side up so that the bottom edge that was formed in step 3 now aligns with the center fold.
7. Fold your side in so that it meets that fold from step 3.
8. Do this with both sides and hold it in place.
9. Fold your top right corner in.
10. You’ll see that there are two flaps on top -one on the right and one on the left. Fold the inner corner in as well.
11. To help this smaller fold stay in place better, tuck the corner folds that you just formed in.
12. Repeat steps 9-11 with the left top flap as well.
You can now set your table with pretty hearts!
The flatware will weight down the heart napkin fold, keeping it in place a little better.
Your guests will totally be impressed with your napkin folding skills!
