Turtle Bookmark – Free Craft Templates
DIY these adorable turtle bookmarks with this free download and a few simple steps! When you’re done, check out these LEGO bookmarks. This post contains affiliate links.
Take this friendly turtle for a swim through your favorite book! A simple paper-folding activity forms a bookmark that slips over the corner of a page, and then you’ll use our easy, free template to decorate it with a cute turtle.
You probably even have all the supplies already, as this is made entirely out of paper and just about any type of paper will do – I prefer cardstock for extra durability, but you can also use construction paper, copy paper, or whatever you have available. Because this craft is small, you can even use up scraps of paper.
Not only is this craft great for kids who love to read, but I also find that having new accessories can get kids into reading even if they weren’t already interested. Maybe your kid likes crafts, or turtles, or just having something new and interesting… We always need extra tricks up our sleeves for those reluctant readers who are hard to hook in, and a new bookmark is a great excuse to pick up a new book.
You can easily adapt this craft to other designs and make a variety of bookmarks to match your interests or your mood. The base is a simple paper corner, so instead of attaching the turtle, you could choose to decorate it any other way. Likewise, you can also feel free to use the turtle template to decorate other things in addition to bookmarks – like greeting cards or stick puppets.

How to make a corner turtle bookmark
1. Select colored papers for the turtle. We used several different shades of green, but you can use any combination you like.
Cut out the template and trace the shapes onto the papers you chose. The template includes a head, legs, shell, shell spots, and bottom/belly.
Cut all the shapes out of the colored paper.
2. Glue the shell spots onto the shell.
3. Glue the leg cutouts to the bottom of the shell, with one sticking out toward the left and one to the right.
4. Take the bottom/belly piece and apply glue along the straight side.
5. Attach that to the bottom of the shell.
6. Glue the head cutout to the middle part of the shell. Use markers to draw the turtle’s face.
7. Follow the tutorial for how to make a corner bookmark to craft the base of this. Or, glue it to a stick, or a slip of paper to finish it off.
8. Spread glue on the back of the turtle and stick it to the triangle of the corner bookmark.
Tada! Your turtle bookmark is complete!
